“I Refused to Be Used for Selfish Gains” – Kabanda Explains Shock PLU Exit as Muhoozi Moves Fast to Replace Him

Outgoing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General and Kasambya County MP, Hon. Daudi Kabanda, has spoken out following his resignation, revealing that he personally informed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba before making the decision public.

Kabanda, who has been at the center of PLU’s leadership structure for three years, told Daily Monitor publication that his exit was driven by concerns over growing misuse of the office. He alleged that some individuals had begun treating the position as an avenue for personal financial benefit, prompting his decision to step aside.

“I could not allow the office to be exploited for selfish reasons,” Kabanda reportedly said, explaining the motivation behind his resignation.

Following Kabanda’s departure, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba quickly appointed Tingey County MP Hon. Fadil Twalla as the new PLU Secretary General, effectively ending Kabanda’s tenure.

Despite stepping down from the top administrative role, Kabanda will remain a member of the PLU Central Committee as the organization continues its internal restructuring.

Earlier, the PLU leadership announced a wider reorganization of its Central Committee, signaling a significant internal restructuring ahead of Uganda’s upcoming political cycle.

Gen. Muhoozi stated that the current leadership team had successfully delivered on its initial mandate but emphasized the need for fresh leadership to handle emerging political and organizational challenges.

Despite the shake-up, several senior figures have retained their positions within the Central Committee. These include Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, MP Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda, who continue to oversee key portfolios such as mobilization, legal affairs, and communications within the PLU framework.

The leadership changes have triggered mixed reactions among political observers and supporters. While some have praised Kabanda for his transparency and principled resignation, others speculate whether his departure was entirely voluntary or part of broader internal realignments within the Muhoozi-led movement.
