Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and PLU Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Hon. Fadil Twalla, MP for Tingey County, as the new PLU Secretary General, replaceing Hon. Daudi Kabanda, MP for Kasambya County, who has served in the position for three years.
Muhoozi thanked Kabanda for his service at the helm of the PLU secretariat, recognizing his contribution to the movement’s early organizational growth.
The announcement comes just hours after Gen. Muhoozi revealed plans to appoint a new PLU Central Committee, signaling a broader restructuring of the movement ahead of the 2026 political season.
He noted that the current leadership team had successfully delivered on its initial mandate but emphasized the need for new leadership to address emerging organizational challenges.
Despite the reshuffle, several senior figures retained their roles within the PLU Central Committee, including Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, Hon. Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda. They continue to oversee key portfolios such as mobilization, legal affairs, and communications within the PLU structure.
The Patriotic League of Uganda, which evolved from the MK Movement in 2024, is a civic organization focused on patriotism, anti-corruption, national service, and environmental protection, while also functioning as a strong support base for the ruling NRM.
The latest reshuffle highlights Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s direct authority over PLU appointments and points to an ongoing strategic restructuring aimed at positioning the movement for its next phase of political and civic operations.
