Media personality and social media influencer, Sheilah Gashumba has joined growing calls for justice following the death of Ugandan rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, urging police to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
Gashumba expressed her frustration and sorrow in a post on X, formerly Twitter, following reports that Gongodyo was fatally attacked by a mob in Kampala.
“Such a sad and terrifying incident! @PoliceUg pls don’t fail Sydney in getting justice!! His family, friends and fellow Ugandans deserve answers and whoever was involved in the death of Sydney must be held accountable for their actions!! #JusticeForSydney,” she wrote.

Gongodyo, who played for the Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates, died after reportedly being assaulted by a mob on June 5, 2026. The attack followed allegations that he had stolen a handbag.
According to reports, Gongodyo remained at the scene in an effort to clear his name and prove his innocence. However, the situation turned violent, and he was attacked by members of the crowd.
The incident has sparked widespread public outrage, with many Ugandans condemning mob justice and demanding answers from authorities.
As investigations continue, calls are mounting for those involved in the attack to be identified and prosecuted.

Gongodyo’s death has left the Ugandan rugby fraternity in mourning and renewed concerns over the continued rise of mob justice incidents across the country.
