Musician Deus Ndugwa, also known as Grenade Official, has reportedly left Christianity and joined Islam, in a bold decision during the month of Ramadan.
Grenade, who was formerly a practising Christian, shared the video online, which sparked mixed reactions from his fans, with various Muslim fans welcoming him to Islam.
Grenade Official had relocated to London, where he has been staying with his girlfriend, who is said to have played a vital role in Grenade’s conversion.
Various musicians and celebrities in Uganda have recently converted to Islam, a key characteristic of Islam as one of the fastest-growing religions in the country, as evidenced in the 2024 housing and population census.
Hassan Kigozi, formerly George William Kigozi, also known as Geosteady, Abubakar Shakhur, also known as Omulangira Ssuna, and Nahia Nakitende, formerly Vola Nakitende, are some of the popular Ugandan celebrities who have recently embraced Islam.
Grenade hasn’t explained why he joined Islam, nor has he revealed the Islamic name that he will adopt.
In July 2024, while appearing on Galaxy TV, Grenade revealed that he was a born-again Christian and had a girlfriend. He would later appear at Worship House Nansana, a church headed by Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Grenade re-affirmed being a born-again who had given his life to Christ and even performed the rendition of the Omwoyo song by Bugembe. Â However, after leaving for London, the singer decided to join Islam.
Grenade Official dismisses allegations that things that have happened to him were stunts, confirms he has a girlfriend and is a transformed, born again man.
