Uganda Airlines is set for a major expansion after President Yoweri Museveni witnessed the signing of a landmark agreement between the national carrier and American aircraft manufacturer Boeing for the acquisition of 10 new aircraft on Wednesday 10th June, 2026.
The deal, valued at approximately $985 million (about Shs3.6 trillion), includes both passenger jets and cargo planes aimed at boosting Uganda Airlines’ operational capacity and strengthening the country’s position in regional aviation.
According to the reports from the State House , the fleet expansion is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and investment by improving connectivity across key markets while positioning Entebbe as a leading aviation hub in East Africa.
Beyond supplying the aircraft, Boeing will also provide technical support, including pilot training, maintenance expertise, and other capacity-building programs to support the airline’s growth.
Government officials hailed the agreement as a significant step toward Uganda’s economic transformation, noting that an expanded national carrier will play a crucial role in facilitating business, exports, and international travel.
Photos shared by Uganda’s State House X account from the signing ceremony showed President Museveni alongside senior government officials, Uganda Airlines executives, and Boeing representatives as the agreement was finalized.
While many supporters welcomed the move as a bold investment in Uganda’s future, some observers raised concerns about the costs involved, as well as the need for sufficient pilots, engineers, and maintenance infrastructure to support the enlarged fleet.
The acquisition marks one of the biggest investments in Uganda Airlines since its revival and signals the government’s continued commitment to expanding the country’s aviation sector.
