Frank Gashumba Distances Himself From Viral “M23 in Uganda” Video as Political Storm Intensifies

Political commentator Frank Gashumba has denied claims linked to a viral video in which he appears to discuss “M23 in Uganda,” insisting that the footage is old and unrelated to current events.

Speaking during a recent appearance on Radio 4, Gashumba said the clip currently circulating on social media was recorded long ago and is being shared out of context.

“The clip circulating on social media about M23 is a very old video,” Gashumba stated.

The controversy stems from earlier remarks attributed to Gashumba, in which he warned that unresolved citizenship concerns and alleged discrimination against Banyarwanda could potentially fuel an “M23-style rebellion” in Uganda.

His comments emerged amid public debate following Parliament’s rejection of Dr. Lawrence Muganga’s ministerial nomination over concerns related to his passport and citizenship status.

The remarks have since triggered strong political reactions, including from the CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who announced that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Central Committee would review the matter involving Gashumba.

As the debate continues, the comments have divided public opinion. Critics argue that the statements were inflammatory and risk escalating tensions, while supporters maintain that Gashumba’s remarks have been misinterpreted and taken out of context.

The controversy continues to generate widespread discussion across political and social media circles, with many closely watching the response from both Gashumba and the PLU leadership
