Uganda’s High Court Justice, Emmanuel Baguma has directed Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to file his defense by June 18 in a politically sensitive case filed by jailed opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Besigye alleges that Muhoozi made threatening statements on X (formerly Twitter), including claims such as “We will hang KB on Heroes’ Day” and describing him as a “dead man walking.” The opposition figure argues that the posts amount to death threats and are intended to prejudice his ongoing treason trial.
The case stems from Besigye’s treason charges linked to his reported 2024 abduction from Kenya. His legal team contends that the alleged statements interfere with his right to a fair trial by influencing public perception and undermining judicial impartiality.
Justice Emmanuel Baguma has also ordered the Attorney General and several Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officers listed as co-respondents to respond in the matter. The case is scheduled for hearing on June 30.
The proceedings have intensified attention on the growing political tension between Uganda’s military leadership and opposition figures, as the dispute now moves deeper into the courts.
