President Yoweri Museveni has attributed Kalangala District’s ongoing development challenges to residents’ decision to elect opposition leaders, saying their representatives have failed to effectively channel local concerns to the government.
Speaking at an NRM campaign rally in Kalangala on the final day of campaigning for the district’s Woman MP by-election, Museveni urged voters to support candidates aligned with the ruling party if they want faster development and improved service delivery.
“There is a challenge here in Kalangala because you went and voted for the opposition; none of them have ably addressed your concerns to the government,” the President told supporters.

Museveni argued that opposition MPs have not done enough to lobby government on behalf of the district, leaving key local issues unresolved.
The President’s remarks come as political temperatures rise ahead of the June 24, 2026, Kalangala Woman MP by-election, which was triggered by the death of former NUP legislator Hellen Nakimuli.
The race has attracted national attention, with NUP candidate Irene Nampala facing off against NRM’s Idah Nabayiga in a contest many political observers view as an early indicator of voter sentiment ahead of Uganda’s 2026 General Elections.
Museveni used the rally to rally support for Nabayiga, emphasizing that electing leaders who work closely with the government would help accelerate development projects and address the district’s pressing needs.
With campaigns now concluded, all eyes are on Kalangala as voters prepare to decide who will represent them in Parliament in one of the country’s most closely watched by-elections.
