FUFA President and Budiope East MP, Hon. Moses Magogo has sparked widespread debate after proposing affordable domestic flights linking Kampala to major towns and cities across Uganda.
Magogo shared the idea on his X (formerly Twitter) account while aboard a Uganda Airlines flight, where he praised the national carrier and suggested the introduction of 50-seater aircraft operating from Kajjansi Airport to destinations including Arua, Gulu, Soroti, and Mbarara.
According to the legislator, passengers could pay approximately UGX 300,000 for a one-way ticket, providing a faster and more convenient alternative to the long road journeys that many travelers currently endure.

Magogo also proposed circular flight routes connecting different regions of the country, arguing that improved domestic air transport would stimulate business growth, boost tourism, enhance regional connectivity, and significantly reduce travel times.
His proposal quickly gained traction online, attracting hundreds of comments and reactions. Supporters praised the idea as a forward-thinking solution to Uganda’s transportation challenges, saying it could save travelers valuable time, lower vehicle operating costs, and reduce the stress associated with lengthy road trips.
However, the proposal also drew criticism. Some questioned whether the suggested fares would be affordable for ordinary Ugandans, particularly at a time when many workers earn less than UGX 1 million per month. Others used the discussion to criticize the politician and challenge the practicality of the proposal.
The conversation comes at a time when Uganda Airlines is exploring plans to launch domestic flight services during the 2026/2027 financial year. The initiative is expected to strengthen tourism, improve connectivity, and support economic activity across different regions of the country.

If eventually implemented, Magogo’s vision could revolutionize domestic travel in Uganda, transforming journeys that currently take several hours or even an entire day into flights lasting less than an hour.
