As musicians celebrate the passage of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025, by the Parliament of Uganda, Gift Ov Kaddo has already waged verbal war on companies and individuals who have been using his music commercially without paying royalties.
Kaddo warned all blogs and websites that upload free music downloads to remove his music with immediate effect from their servers.
He added that websites are making significant revenue from his music, yet he is not receiving any compensation in return. He mentioned a few websites that he says have benefited the most.
“Delete my music from your websites”, he said, quarrelling, adding that “they upload all our music, whenever we release a new song, they also upload it, I no longer want to work for them as a slave”
He also warned those media stations that play their music for free and then host awards to award those they intend to promote while pushing others down.
When warned that this might lead to his total downfall, he said that he should be allowed to fall completely, but they should put down his music.
Whereas the amendment to the Copyright Act has not been assented to law by the president of the country, the existing law gives musicians rights to their music, and they can sue whoever is using their work illegally.
Gift Ov Kaddo was one of the most trending artists at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. With various songs such as Traffic Man officer, Lawyer, and later working with the late Mr X, where they released a couple of songs together that were hits in the country.
Whether music download websites will honour his request and take down his music or not is yet to be known.
