Breaking: Lionel Messi hits 900 Career Goals

Argentina and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has hit another milestone, reaching 900 career goals. Messi reached 900 goals after scoring an opener in the 7th minute against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16, second leg match.

Messi’s goal makes him one of the 4 players who claimed to have reached 900 goals, which include Brazilian legend Pele, Czech Republic legend Josef Bican and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo. With goals of Pele and Josef Bican being disputed to have included friendly matches, Messi and Ronaldo are the only verified players to have reached 900 goals.

Lionel Messi has had a long career spanning 21 years to date. Having scored his first goal on May 1, 2005, vs Albacete in La Liga, Messi has been scoring every year since then, increasing his goal tally to 100 goals in January 2010. In about 1.5 years, Messi had increased his goal tally to 200 by August 17, 2011, while playing in the second leg of the Supercopa de España against Real Madrid.

Messi would hit 500 goals while playing in La Liga against Valencia on April 17, 2016, in a match that Barcelona would eventually lose. He hit the 800 goals milestone on March 23, 2023, while on international duty playing against Panama in a friendly match. This was his first match post-World Cup for the national team.

Of the 900 goals that Messi has scored, 672 were scored for F.C. Barcelona, 32 for Paris Saint-Germain, 79 for Inter Miami CF and 115 for the Argentina National Team.
