Erias Lukwago Remanded Again as Court Delays Bail Ruling

Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been further remanded until June 30, 2026, after the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court postponed its ruling on his bail application.

The court cited challenging courtroom conditions and the complexity of arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense as reasons for the delay. The presiding magistrate informed the parties that the ruling would be delivered electronically within the next 24 hours.

Lukwago is facing charges of misprision of treason. Prosecutors allege that between 2021 and 2024, he was aware of an alleged plot involving his client, Dr. Kizza Besigye, and others to commit acts deemed treasonous, but failed to report the information to authorities.

Erias Lukwago Remanded further

The veteran lawyer and opposition politician has strongly denied all the charges leveled against him.

If convicted, Lukwago could face life imprisonment.

His next court appearance on June 30 coincides with proceedings in Dr. Besigye’s treason case before the High Court, further intensifying public interest in the matter.

The postponement of the bail ruling leaves Lukwago’s supporters anxiously awaiting the court’s decision as investigations and legal proceedings continue
